Who doesn’t love a scoop of Loard’s Mocha Almond Fudge ice cream scooped at the counter and served on a cone? The answer is people who have allergic reactions to milk, soy, or tree nuts. Of course, most people—or their parents, in the case of younger kids—are aware of their allergies and avoid foods that could make them sick.
[1]Unfortunately, however, some of those potential allergens weren’t listed on the packaging of some Loard’s ice cream that was sold in 32-ounce paper containers and 56-ounce plastic cups in their storefront freezers. So, the San Leandro-based company issued a voluntary recall of a wide range of flavors that may have some potentially life-threatening allergens that weren’t listed on the packaging, according to a KTVU News report [2].
The affected flavors include popular favorites such as chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, pistachio, peanut butter fudge, mango, horchata, coffee, eggnog, cookies and cream, black raspberry, blueberry cheesecake, chocolate mint, butterscotch, banana, and more. A full list of affected flavors is available on the FDA website [3], which notes that the undeclared allergens include milk, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, wheat, sulfites, and food color additives.
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, or wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” according to the FDA warning.
However, no illnesses due to the labeling have been reported at this time, according to KRON News [4].
There is a Loard’s Ice Cream located in South Shore Center.
Anyone who has purchased any of these products should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or a replacement with updated packaging, CBS News [5] reported. If you have any questions, please call 415-547-0520 on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., or email Loard’s at [email protected] [6].
