The City has now published updated recommendations [2] for the Gibbons/High/Fernside intersection and the neighborhood around Gibbons Drive. Based on extensive community feedback [3], the project team now recommends fast-tracking quick-build neighborhood traffic calming for 2026-2027, as described below:

After these improvements are installed, the project team recommends collecting updated traffic data and conducting a temporary pilot turn restriction at Gibbons/High/Fernside as part of long-term planning for the Fernside Boulevard Traffic Calming and Bikeways Project. Staff will also seek funding for project design and construction during this time.

The revised recommendation responds to community concerns about potential traffic diversion from a turn restriction at Gibbons and emphasizes the need for immediate safety improvements for the larger Fernside neighborhood. This recommendation prioritizes quick-build measures that can be delivered in 2026-2027 (before pavement resurfacing), followed by evaluation and phased implementation of additional changes in the future.
