On August 30, the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum will celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the End of World War II—and the public is invited to join in the special event.
[1]The all-day event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., including an opening ceremony, VIP speakers, panel discussions, a lunch break, dinner, and a closing musical performance and awards ceremony.
“We will be focusing on the war in the Pacific and on the cooperation between China and the United States—the Doolittle Raid, the Flying Tigers, Carrier Raids in the Pacific and more,” said Laura Fies, Executive Director of the USS Hornet Museum. “We will have special presentations, exhibits, and much more.”
The day starts with a 10:30 a.m. opening ceremony and VIP speeches on the Main Stage in Hangar Bay 3, followed by a USS Hornet presentation at 11:30.
During the 12:30-1:30 p.m. lunch break, Pacific-themed food vendors will offer food for purchase (appetizers in the evening).
The afternoon schedule is as follows:
- 1:30-4:30 p.m. — Panel discussions on select topics of World War II in the China theater and US/Chinese cooperation, on the Main Stage in Hangar Bay 3.
- 4:40-5:20 p.m. — Dinner and social, on the Main Stage in Hangar Bay 3.
- 5:20-5:40 p.m. — Break for appetizers while preparations are made for the closing performance.
- 6-7 p.m. — Musical performance, fashion show, and awards ceremony on the Flight Deck (weather permitting; otherwise in Hangar Bay.)

This follows the museum’s successful artifact exchange in April with the Doolittle Raid Memorial Hall in Quzhou China.
