The City of Alameda’s Pavement Management Project [1] is set to begin construction in the coming weeks. This year’s work will focus on the Bay Farm Zone, the area between High Street and the eastern city limits, and will cover more than 10 miles of roadway across 60 streets, including Aughinbaugh Way, Maitland Drive, Mecartney Road, and Sea View Parkway. A full list of streets is available on the City’s Pavement Management Project Phase 43 [2] webpage.
[3]Timeline
Construction is expected from August through December, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The schedule for individual streets will vary, and the project will be completed in multiple phases:
- Concrete work (curb, gutter, and sidewalks).
- Roadway treatments.
- Traffic striping and signage.
What to expect during construction
During construction, residents may experience minor traffic disruptions, detours, and minor increases in noise and dust. Parking may be prohibited in certain areas, so watch for “No Parking” signs, which will be posted at least 72 hours in advance.
The City is working with AC Transit and Alameda County Industries to coordinate any impacts to bus routes or waste collection services.
New pedestrian safety improvements
As part of the project, new red curbs will be painted at select intersections. This is in compliance with State law, AB 413, which prohibits parking within 20 feet (the size of one parking space) of marked or unmarked crosswalks to improve visibility and enhance pedestrian safety. Red curbs will be added at select intersections near major streets, streets with bike lanes, and streets near schools.
The City appreciates your cooperation and patience. If you have questions or concerns about the project, please contact Alan Ta at [email protected] [4].
This project is made possible with funding from:
- Alameda County Measures B and BB.
- Vehicle Registration Fund.
- SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
- CalRecycle’s Rubberized Pavement Grant.
