AC Transit Seeks Community Input to Revamp Bus Stop Guidelines

Share your feedback to improve rider experience, survey available through July 5

AC Transit is updating its bus stop guidelines and seeking community input to improve riders’ experience. The transit agency aims to create a customer-focused, transparent process for future stop placements, focusing on improved spacing between stops, location of bus stops, and accessibility.

The revamped guidelines will bring together various policy elements into a cohesive strategy, guided by AC Transit’s core principles of safety, accessibility, reliability, feasibility, and comfort. The agency is committed to providing consistent service with minimal wait times, while also considering factors such as visibility, sidewalk condition, and surrounding land use when placing bus stops. To enhance the rider experience, AC Transit [2] plans to incorporate seating, shelter, cleanliness, and aesthetic enhancements at bus stops.

“Our goal is to improve your bus stop experience,” AC Transit stated in a bulletin released on June 11. “We want to create well-lit, accessible, and clearly marked bus stops that meet all riders’ needs, including those with disabilities.”

Community feedback is necessary in shaping the new policy, and AC Transit encourages residents to share their thoughts by completing a short questionnaire on their website by July 5. The questionnaire is available online at their Bus Stop Guidelines [3] web page, along with more information about the initiative.
