The Oakland Roots [1] lost their third game in a row on Saturday, September 21, as they were defeated 2-0 by the Hartford Athletic at Trinity Health Stadium in Hartford, Connecticut.
[2]The host team opened the scoring against the Roots within the first 20 minutes, when Marlon Hairston found the net following a period of dominance that started at the kickoff. Hartford continued to dominate but didn’t manage to score again in the first half, ending it with that 1-0 lead over the Roots.
Hartford again came out aggressively in the second half, which culminated in Jordan Scarlett receiving a red card for a challenge on Oakland’s Irakoze Donasiyano. This gave the Roots a one-man advantage moving forward.
Despite having a man advantage and making three substitutions, however, the Roots couldn’t capitalize. Kyle Edwards managed to score for Hartford against the run of play on a set piece, extending their lead to 2-0.
The Roots battled until the final whistle but were unable to find the back of the net, ultimately losing their third consecutive game by a 2-0 scoreline. They will now head home for a matchup with FC Tulsa on Sunday, September 29 [3], at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
