The Oakland Roots [1] extended their unbeaten streak versus Las Vegas Lights FC to six games on Wednesday night, keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw that snapped the Roots’ four-game league skid and earned them an all-important point in the Western Conference.
[2]Both sides looked sluggish to begin the game, battling the 105-degree desert heat and short rest due to the mid-week matchup.
The Roots nearly opened the scoring in the 17th minute of the match when Bobosi Byaruhanga sent an absolute laser off the crossbar that ricocheted into the goal line but not fully across it before being cleared from danger.
Oakland continued to find attacking chances throughout the match, but it was their fortitude on defense that likely earned them a point.
Las Vegas also sent multiple shot attempts off the woodwork throughout the 90 minutes. Those that did find their way on target were cleaned up thanks to the stellar play of Oakland’s Kendall McIntosh who made multiple save-of-the-week worthy stops to keep Las Vegas off the scoreboard.
The Roots will look to build on their performance this Saturday, August 8, when they head to El Paso for a 6 p.m. league fixture versus Locomotive FC.
