This year’s storied Island Bowl—the annual high school football game between Alameda High School Hornets and Encinal High School Jets that was established in 1955—will take place Friday, September 11, at the new Encinal Jets’ Field [1], 210 Central Avenue. The JV game will begin at 4:30 p.m., and the Varsity game will start at 7 p.m.

The game is early in the season this year, which means that neither team has yet established a strong record. An exciting game is expected, not just because of the Bowl’s 71-year history, but also because the two teams’ Island Bowl records are so closely matched. Since 1955, the Hornets have won 35 of the games, the Jets have won 33, and two games were tied.
The Island Bowl typically attracts a lot of spectators, and even more are expected this year because it is being played on Encinal’s new field. To ensure safety for all, a few new protocols are being implemented. Please read the following information carefully.
Tickets
- Tickets go on sale on September 8.
- Tickets will only be available on GoFan. No tickets will be available at the game.
- Individuals may purchase up to four tickets each.
Seating
- The bleachers hold about 1,100 people. Seating in the bleachers will be first come, first serve.
- Once the bleachers are full, standing room will be available.
- It is recommended that you buy your tickets early and arrive at the game early.
- There are no in-and-out privileges. Once you leave the field, you cannot come back in.
Parking
- Parking is available at the Encinal Boat Ramp and in the surrounding neighborhood.
- If you are driving, please plan to arrive early so that you have plenty of time to find parking and walk to the field calmly and safely.
What to Bring
- Bring team spirit, team swag, and warm clothing (it gets windy there).
- Do NOT bring:
- Alcohol.
- Backpacks.
- A purse larger than 5 x 8 inches.
Supervision
- Students in 8th grade and under need to be accompanied by a supervising adult.
- Students must bring their ID cards and/or show their Aeries page at the gate to verify grade level if they are not with an adult.
Behavior
- All students and families must be respectful and considerate of the opposing team, their supporters, the game officials, and nearby residents.
