Be Part of the California King Tides Project at Crab Cove

The California King Tides Project helps visualize future sea levels by observing the highest tides of today. You can participate right here in Alameda at East Bay Regional Park District’s free King Tides at the Cove [1] event at Crab Cove on Friday, February 9, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Stop by during your lunch or morning break and watch as the 7.6-foot-high king tide flows into the marine protected area. Participate in community science and take photos to help document this tidal event. No registration is required—just drop in. For more information, call 510-544-3187.

If you can’t make it to this event, you can still help document this annual phenomenon by uploading your own photos to the California King Tides Project [4] website. The King Tides Project helps scientists create a record of the history of changes to our coastline and estuaries.

You can upload photos via a web browser [5] or with the free Survey123 app [6]. Be sure to have your phone’s location services ON when you’re taking your King Tides photos. If using a digital camera, please make a note of exactly where you are so you can mark your photo location on the map when you upload it via the web browser. Complete instructions and information are online at the King Tides Project’s special Upload [7] web page.

And while you’re on the website, check out this map  [8]with King Tide photos spanning across California’s entire coastline from 2018 to 2024.
