West End Arts District Issues Call for Entries to ‘Edge of the Pacific: Bay Perspectives’

Editor’s note, 5:20 p.m. on Monday, March 9: The application deadline has been extended [1] until 11:59 p.m. on March 14.

Local photographers, take note. The West End Arts District is seeking “evocative photography that captures the unique spirit, ecology, and atmosphere of the Northern California shoreline” for the Edge of the Pacific: Bay Perspectives exhibit April 24-May 17 at Alameda Point.

“From the foggy piers of San Francisco to the industrial silhouettes of the East Bay, the Pacific Ocean defines the character of our Bay Area communities,” the call for entries [1] states. “Whether you are inspired by rugged coastal conservation, the impact of urban communities, or quiet moments of life along the estuary, we want to see your perspective.”Alameda Post - A photo of the shoreline withe the text: Bay Area Photographers: Edge of the Pacific Call for Entries. About the show

Twenty images will be selected for Edge of the Pacific and shown alongside the U.S. premiere of the Ocean Photographer of the Year [3] exhibition, presented by Oceanographic Magazine and Blancpain, which will feature a curated selection of work from some of the best photographers, ocean explorers, and conservationists from around the world.

All of the images will be displayed inside one of the historic hangars at Alameda Point, which also will host talks by marine conservationists, photography organizations, local school visits, ocean-inspired music, and more.

Images chosen for the show will be printed by Bay Photo Lab [4], which has earned certification through the Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program. The printed images will be mounted for display, and after the show the prints will remain the property of the artists.

Curators for the show will be Jan Watten, photographer and founder of Gray Loft Gallery, along with Nick Winkworth, photographer and vice president of the Bay Area Photographers Collective (BAPC), who also serves as Board President for the West End Arts District.
