Thoughts on Life

Two poems from Arthur Lenhardt

Alameda Post - a forest

‘A Path’

Is that a clearing just ahead?

Light’s showing just a bit.

It’s been real thick so far, I know.

This forest isn’t fit

For man or beast to spend much time

Struggling through their day

And looking for just any path,

To guide them on their way.

If you found out, long ago,

A way to make it through

The maze you call the life you live

And all the things you do,

Then, if you can, please share your way

For those of us who need

A little help along the way.

That would be your good deed!

And thank you, in advance, for this,

It means a lot to those

Who haven’t seen the light you saw

To find the path you chose.

Alameda Post - a person sitting on a rock in the ocean watching the sunset

‘The Song is Never Really Gone’

It’s been so long, now, since I’ve heard

Your quiet breathing by my side

I have to tell my memory

That it’s all right since, deep inside,

There lives a life I’ll never lose,

With music only I can hear,

Deep harmonies sent from your soul,

And melodies that are so clear.

It’s such a privilege to know

That I, alone, can hear the sound

Of choirs and orchestras from far

Beyond this world to which I’m bound.

You still exist. You make me strong.

The silence of your absence is my song.
