In the highly anticipated match-up of the week, the Alameda Wolves defeated the Oakland Swish on Saturday, June 10, in Round 2 of Women’s Premier Basketball Association (WPBA) competition at the College of Alameda Gymnasium.

The Swish came out tough early in the game, determined to get to the basket and keep Alameda from finding their rhythm on offense. Nicol Berry set Oakland’s hopes early, ultimately leading scorers with 24 points. Rachel Howard, who had just returned from playing in Spain, provided instant impact for Oakland, scoring 8 points before going out with a serious cramp in her calves in her first game in the league.

But Alameda refused to be defeated. Jazmine Jackson, who loves crashing boards, had her way in the paint even with the Swish doubling her every possession. Jackson finished the game with 17 points and 9 rebounds, helping the Wolves secure a victory over the Swish by a score of 76-70.

The Wolves are now 2-0 in their first two games of the season.

“There’s a lot of talent this year and everyone’s showing up and showing out,” Jackson said. She noted that the games are really fun this year—for both the players and the fans.

The Alameda Wolves aim to continue their undefeated season start this Saturday, June 17, when they face the San Francisco Riptide at 12:30 p.m. at the College of Alameda Gymnasium.

All WPBA games, including Alameda Wolves games, are listed in the Alameda Post Events Calendar. Schedules and team information are listed on the WPBA Schedule & Results web page.
