The Kiwanis Club of Alameda hosted a record-breaking chili cookoff fundraiser [1] last Saturday, January 27, raising more than $20,000 in one night for Alameda nonprofits, according to their spokesperson Patricia Bowen.
[2]More than 200 guests enjoyed chili tastings and a three-meat barbecue catered by Back Forty [3]. “No one left hungry!” Bowen said. The first-place winner of the chili cookoff, by popular vote, was the Chicken/White Bean Chili, with Vegetarian Chili taking second place and Texas No Bean Chili in third.
Attendees also enjoyed both a silent and live auction as well as a raffle for high value items. All auction items sold out. One of the highlights was western dancing by Dance 10 [4], and dancing to DJ Richard’s “Sound Explosion.”
The Kiwanis Club extends its thanks to sponsors, donors, guests, and Alameda supporters for a “memorable evening,” Bowen said.
