Island Yacht Club’s premier event, the 34th Annual Women’s Sailing Seminar [1], is set to take place September 11 – 13 on the Oakland-Alameda Estuary. Dedicated to empowering women on the water, the three-day event will feature world-renowned British solo ocean racer Pip Hare [2] as the keynote speaker.
[3]The Women’s Sailing Seminar (WSS) is the largest sailing seminar for women in Northern California. With a goal of welcoming women of all backgrounds into the sailing community, WSS creates a fun, safe, and supportive learning environment and brings together women from all over the country for a weekend of classroom instruction and hands-on, on-the-water education.
This year, the three-day seminar elevates its long-standing tradition of mentorship and education by welcoming Pip Hare, one of the world’s most accomplished offshore sailors. Acclaimed for her historic finishes in the grueling Vendée Globe solo non-stop round-the-world race, Hare will share her experiences navigating the world’s most hostile oceans. Her keynote address will focus on resilience, overcoming barriers in a male-dominated sport, and the mental grit required to conquer solo ocean racing.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Pip Hare to our 34th annual seminar,” said WSS Director Eileen Zedd. “Pip embodies the spirit of courage and competence that we strive to inspire in every participant. Her journey will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of female sailors to push past their comfort zones and take the helm on and off the water.”
