Updated: EBRPD Parks to Close Due to Extreme Fire Conditions, Heat

Update July 3–Closures to run through Tuesday, July 9

Due to a Red Flag Warning for excessive heat and gusty winds in Alameda and Contra Costa counties, EBMUD has closed its trails in the East Bay and limited services at recreation areas at San Pablo and Lafayette reservoirs. The closures will remain in effect through the duration of the heat wave, currently forecasted to run through Tuesday, July 9, 2024, and are subject to change. Check ebmud.com/recreation/east-bay [1] for updates.

The public is advised:

Note: smoke, flames, fireworks, flares or any other kind of unauthorized fire use is always prohibited on EBMUD land.

Original story:

By now, most people who live and/or work in the Bay Area are keenly aware of the extreme heat advisory [2] issued by the National Weather Service for Tuesday, July 2, through Friday, July 5 (subject to change).

Many East Bay Regional Parks [4] will remain open for visitors during this week’s increased temperatures, but park guests are encouraged to take special precautions to prepare for the heat while enjoying the open shoreline parks and swimming facilities.

While swim facilities and shoreline parks will remain open, visitors should follow these safety rules and tips:

Please note that smoking is prohibited in all regional trails, parks, and shorelines, as are open fires or barbecues of any type. Off-road driving also is prohibited, as heat from a vehicle’s undercarriage can start a fire. Finally, remember to secure all tow chains—dragging tow chains can spark fires.

Park closures

The following parks will be closed Tuesday, July 2, through Friday morning, July 5 (subject to change): Wildcat Canyon, Tilden (trails only), Huckleberry, Sibley, Leona Canyon, Claremont Canyon, Anthony Chabot, Sobrante Ridge, Sunol, Ohlone, Mission Peak, Vargas Plateau, Five Canyons, Garin/Dry Creek, Pleasanton Ridge, Dublin Hills, Sycamore Valley, Bishop Ranch, Las Trampas, Briones, Carquinez/Crockett Hills, Black Diamond Mines, Contra Loma, Deer Valley, Round Valley, Morgan Territory, Brushy Peak, Vasco Hills, Vasco Caves, and Waterbird.
