Residents, students, business owners, and families are invited to roll up their sleeves for the Webster Street Clean-Up Day, a hands-on community beautification event sponsored by the West Alameda Business Association [1] (WABA) on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
As part of WABA’s year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of the naming of Webster Street, this special clean-up day is a perfect opportunity to honor the history of the West End while investing in its future. Volunteers will meet at the WABA Healing Garden (1435 Webster Street) and then fan out across the district to help with a range of improvement projects—including removing graffiti, tidying the sidewalk, painting fences, and refreshing public spaces.
“This year marks the 150th anniversary of Webster Street’s naming, and what better way to celebrate than by coming together as a community to clean, refresh, and beautify the district,” said Elissa Glickman [3], Executive Director of WABA. “Our collective efforts will help ensure Webster Street remains a welcoming and vibrant place for generations to come.”
In addition to the clean-up effort, WABA will be unveiling a series of colorful new street banners, festive flags, and decorative garbage can inserts this spring—part of a larger beautification campaign celebrating Webster Street’s historic milestone.
