The Halloween Report
Finally! Halloween season has finally arrived! Since the greatest holiday of the entire year is on a Thursday in 2024, most Alamedans will be donning their costumes and venturing out to all sorts of parties in full dress.
As for me, I am still putting the final touches on my Sherlock Bones costume. My human companion (HC) finally agreed to go as my sidekick, Dr. H.C. Watson. I even persuaded him to dress up like the famous doctor. Big thanks to Deborah Wright of Wild Woman Designs for the alterations to my deerstalker hat so my ears would be exposed.
This year’s report was so big that I needed to break it into a four-part video presentation.
Part One has a headless horseman narration, full coverage of the Harris/Trump menagerie debate, a companion political display, my neighbor’s scary front yard, plus a really nice Dia de los Muertos with a large ofrendas. Music by Bobby “Boris” Pickett.
Part Two starts out in Harbor Bay and returns to the main island to cover a great dance party on Grand Street. I was glad to see my species represented (complete with a tennis ball) at another party scene on Bay Street. I investigated a murder scene on San Jose Avenue, a body in a treasure chest, and took a midnight stroll down Phil Rabe’s Foreboding Way. I absolutely love the song Dead Man’s Party by Oingo Boingo. Their front man Danny Elfman did a killer job writing the song and singing the lead vocals. One of the definitive Halloween songs.
Part Three of our presentation continues the Dead Man’s Party music with a collage of displays from all over the island along with a few outtakes from the music video.
I closed out the Halloween report with a redux of the 2023 49er coverage of the yard at 1316 Clinton Avenue, a duo performing Dueling Banjos, a New Orleans funeral procession, and a visit to my friend Tucker’s house on Morton Street. I attended a class at Igor’s Ghoul School, traveled to Valhalla, and ended at Nason Street to check out Tom and Giselle’s awesome Deadpool and Wolverine-themed front yard.
Be sure to check out the special Halloween greeting that Sherlock Bones will post on Thursday.
Happy Halloween everyone!
