Alameda’s Inaugural Pride Festivities

Over the weekend of October 7 – 9, Alameda held its first ever Pride celebration [1]. Saturday’s events included a 5K Fun Run/Walk for all ages, Pride in the Park, held in Chochenyo Park, and a block party on Alameda Avenue by Park Street. Thousands of people attended the weekend’s events and showed their support for Alameda’s LGBTQ community, including local businesses, politicians, community groups, and families. Also in attendance were many people who grew up in Alameda, moved away, but returned for the day to celebrate with their community.

The event was spearheaded by Jeramie and Andrew Andehueson, whose hard work over the past several years brought the groundbreaking weekend to life. The City of Alameda and the Recreation and Parks Department (ARPD) also lent major support, including hanging banners around the City celebrating the event. The lead sponsor of the event was Alameda Elks Lodge 1015.
